![]() ![]() The very closest was a safe choice, the TownPlace Suites Downtown. Where I Virtually Stayed: The Coyote is close enough to downtown Fort Worth and its intersection of interstate highways that there are plenty of hotel choices. Are there good German restaurants everywhere, but I just didn’t notice before I visited Munich? This unassuming small standalone building next to a gas station, Little Germany, had the best spaetzle since New Braunfels at least. I didn’t expect that the closest restaurant to the Fort Worth Coyote would be another authentic German place. Nearby Restaurant: I was in heaven again. Movie Showing / Total Active Nights: Split / 18 Miles Today / Total: 37 / 2938 (rounded to the nearest mile) If you see it, don’t tell anyone about the ending! But desperation and some good buzz about Split led me there for the night. I had already seen three of the early movies, and the fourth was one of those creepy types I wouldn’t ordinarily choose. There were four double features playing, yet I had a tough choice. But instead of the footlong corn dog, I switched to the buffalo chicken pizza. The menu here was pretty much identical to the Coyote in Lewisville, right down to the note that “Taxis are available.” Considering that a “small” fountain soft drink is $5.50, a $5 pint of domestic beer looked like a real bargain. Jimmy Buffett performed here in June 2014 concert that was syndicated to other drive-ins, a great example of the possibilities created by the switch to digital projection. And of course there are the two newest members of the Coyote family in Leeds AL and Lewisville TX. Since it was built from scratch and opened in May 2013, we’ve seen others reopened and others created or planned. It’s an exaggeration to say that the Coyote in Fort Worth spearheaded the drive-in renaissance, but only slightly. It’s Day 24 of my virtual Drive-In-a-Day Odyssey, time again for the occasional oddity of consecutive nights in theaters of the same chain. The drive took less than an hour, from the northeast corner of the DFW metroplex to the heart of Fort Worth TX, but it was also a trip back to the start of a new era in drive-in theaters, the era that began when the Coyote Drive-In opened. The kids will have a great time making new friends in the play area, they are sure to find something yummy to eat at the Coyote Canteen, and the live music on weekends will have the whole family dancing and acting silly before enjoying two great movies! Plus, what kid doesn’t like to play with dogs? You can bring your own family dog to enjoy the show, just check the website for any questions you may have about letting them tag along. It makes the wait for the movie much more fun. Some other fun things Coyote Drive-In offers are live music on the weekends and dogs are allowed! It is always fun to dance and act goofy with your kids, and the music is just an added perk for going on the weekend with no extra charge. If you get a sweet tooth, they also have sweets available. The food prices are no more than if you were to go out to any other fast food place and the selection will keep you and the kids happy. The Coyote Canteen offers pizza, hamburgers, hot dogs, and chicken tenders just to name a few. Most fancy indoor theaters cost more than that for just one movie! Food prices are reasonable as well if you wish to make an entire evening out of this fun event. Ages 12 and up are only $8 for two movies and ages 5 to 11 are only $6 for two movies. The audio can be either played from your car stereo system, you can bring your own radio to tune the movie sound in on, or you can rent a radio to use for $5.įor the price sensitive parent, this is a great value for a nice family night out. Kids will be impressed with the size of the screen. The quality of the movies are just as good as the ones you would go see in a theater. Finally, a new drive-in theater came to town in Lewisville, Texas and I get to take my kids to a fun movie experience. Nice, warm, clear Summer nights had these theaters full! As time went on, they started to slowly disappear and large building movie theaters were popping up and taking charge of the movie industry. ![]() Growing up, drive-in movies were fun and a popular thing to do. ![]()
